Play episode

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) has issued a flood watch alert for residents in the vicinity of the Woronora River, cautioning about the possibility of minor flooding due to an anticipated coastal trough. Expected to intensify into a low pressure system between Friday and Saturday, this weather event could bring significant rainfall to the south coast by late Saturday, with potential impacts including minor flooding in the Sydney area starting early Saturday.

Residents are urged to review their emergency plans, consider alternative routes due to potential road and bridge closures, obey signs and instructions from emergency services, and avoid floodwaters. The SES emphasizes the importance of raising valuables to higher ground in flood-prone areas and sharing safety information with others.

The BoM have updated their forecast rainfall this afternoon with revised rainfall totals.

Here is what you need to know for the next 3 days.

Cronulla – 180mm (Thurs 20mm, Fri 100mm, Sat 60mm)
Menai – 190mm (Thurs 20mm, Fri 110mm, 60mm)
Waterfall – 215mm (Thurs 25mm, Fri 120mm, Sat 70mm).

For more details, the SES advises following NSWSES on social media, visiting their website, and checking the Bureau of Meteorology and Live Traffic NSW for updates on weather conditions and road closures. In emergencies, the public is reminded to contact the SES at 132 500 or dial Triple Zero (000) for life-threatening situations.
