Yowie Bay Student to Shave Head in Support of Friend with Cancer

Play episode

In a gesture of solidarity, Chloe, a sixth-grade student from Sydney, will shave her head to support her best friend, Tirion, who is undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer. This event is set to take place on World Ovarian Cancer Day, May 8, to raise funds for ovarian cancer research.

Since being diagnosed last year, Tirion has faced three major surgeries. These included procedures to correct ovarian torsion, remove a misidentified cyst that was actually a germ cell tumor, and subsequently, the removal of her ovary and fallopian tubes. Her condition led to a series of intense medical interventions, as described by her mother, Virginia, during an interview with Ben Fordham on 2GB radio.

The fundraising initiative, named “Teal 4 Tirion,” aims to gather donations for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Chloe’s mother, Lauren, shared with 2GB that her daughter views her hair as a small sacrifice to support Tirion, highlighting the depth of their friendship. The campaign has been promoted through social media, including a dedicated fundraising page and support from their school community.
